CAVE presented a rare opportunity to watch a live workshop of new experimental compositions, with soprano Juliet Fraser and staff and students from University of Leeds. This was followed by a performance, all at The Hepworth Wakefield.
New works were tested live in the cavernous space of The Calder whilst Dr Sam Belinfante (University of Leeds) led discussions in and around writing for the voice and collaborative ways of working.
The final performance included a series of new commissions and extant works for soprano and tape/electronics as well as Morton Feldman’s rarely performed Three Voices (1982), a mesmerising, kaleidoscopic tour de force in which the singer performs one part live alongside two (of her own) pre-recorded voices.
Workshop: Tuesday 3 May 2016
Featuring work by Emii Alrai, Anya Stewart-Maggs.
Final performance: Saturday 14 May 2016
Featuring Newton Armstrong on electronics.
